University Studies - Business Related Courses:

Certified Dental Assistant Certificate - Selection Criteria (DENT 001)
DENT 001 - Dental Assisting (Intro)

Designed for individuals not currently employed in the dental field who are considering a career as a Dental Assistant.  Provides information and activities to introduce students to the dental profession and to enable individuals to make an informed choice with respect to a dental assisting career.  This is a non-academic course.  Point Value: 1; used for Selection Criteria for the Certified Dental Assistant program at 秀色视频.  Please call the Continuing Studies office at 250-862-5480 or email cskelowna@okanagan.bc.ca to register. Students can register for this course any time and have 4 weeks to complete it from their registration date

Practical Nursing - Admission Requirement

PNUR 113 - Human Anatomy and Physiology (Online)
Pre-PN Biology Certificate
This course is an overview of the structure and function of the body systems. Various health promotion strategies that work toward optimal function of these systems are discussed.

Admission Requirements

A minimum grade of 67% in a Grade 12 biology course which includes human anatomy and physiology or an equivalent Provincial Level Adult Basic Education Biology course. However, students with a minimum grade of 80% in Biology 11 or an equivalent Advanced Level Adult Basic Education Biology course may take Biology 12 as a corequisite.

Q:  Who is this course for?
A: This course is an admission requirement for the Practical Nursing (PN) program.

Q:  When should I take this course?
A: If you are applying to the Practical Nursing program you should take the PNUR 113 course as soon as possible, even if you haven鈥檛 yet received confirmation of conditional acceptance.  If you start the PNUR 113 course late and haven鈥檛 successfully completed it by the deadlines, you will not be admitted to the Practical Nursing program.

Q:  How do I apply?
A:  Apply online through EducationPlannerBC, and select PNUR113 as your program. Alternatively, you can obtain an application form from any campus.  Return completed hard copy applications to Admissions, 1000 KLO Road, Kelowna, BC, V1Y 4X8, or to any 秀色视频 campus.

Q:  The calendar description shows that this is a 52 hour course but how many hours will it take to complete when you include homework?
A: The course is self-paced with defined start and end dates and takes 150 鈥 200 hours over a 14 week period.

Q:  How much is the course?
A:  The price can be found on the Distance Education Student Handbook page.  Once on this page, scroll down until you get to the Academic Fees section.

Q:  When can I start?
A:   There are 3 start dates per year (September, January, May)

Q:  Is there any online content and is a computer required?
A:  Yes, the entire course requires computer access to 秀色视频鈥檚 course management system - Moodle.  Even if you are delayed in picking up your materials, please go online right away to get started.  You will require your student ID number in order to log into Moodle.  Go to myokanagan.bc.ca to log in and then click on the Moodle image.  Although you can download the course material to your computer, you will require reliable internet access in order to complete the many online activities, quizzes, and especially tests.

Q:  When and where do I write the final exam?
A: All exams (3 midterms and the final exam) are done on your own computer unsupervised. You will need reliable internet access and you will download and use Respondus Lockdown Browser. 

Exams are to be written during specified weeks; see the Moodle course for dates. It is recommended that you write exams during business hours. 

Q:  Do I need to arrange for invigilation of the final exam?
A: If you are taking this course for entrance into a different program, contact Distance Education in order to arrange for Respondus Monitor use during your exam. You will need a webcam for this service.

Q:  Who can I contact if I have questions?
A:  There is a tutor assigned to your course and their contact information will be provided to you when you pick up your materials.  For any other questions not related to course content, please contact Distance Education.
